What's it like travelling to Germany

"Looking back to 1995, what started as a professional visit representing the North Walsham Fire Service became a lifelong journey of friendship. From parading through the Allgäu to visiting the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle, the memories are endless. The hospitality of our host families turned a short trip into decades of membership for my wife and me. Even without mastering the language, the good food, great beer, and fantastic company make every exchange unforgettable. Whether hosting or visiting, the bond between our towns is truly special.

"After being inspired by polyglots in 1989, my wife and I began learning German and joined the Twinning Association in 1994. We were hosted by a lovely couple in Friesenried who chose us simply because our surname was the 'most difficult to pronounce!' That broke the ice for a friendship that has lasted decades. We haven’t missed a visit since; the hospitality is second to none, the cakes are legendary, and the scenery is beautiful. If you love meeting new people, the Friends of Friesenried is for you."

"Joining the Friends of Friesenried has been such a rewarding experience from day one. The members have been incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel like part of the group immediately—whether it's getting together for our member meals or enjoying the friendly competition of the fish and chip quiz night. I’ve heard so much about the beauty of Bavaria and the warmth of our twin town; I truly can’t wait to visit Friesenried in person and experience that famous hospitality for myself!"
